Rotomoulding
BORÉALDESIGN plastic kayaks are manufactured one at a time using the rotomoulding technique. Polyethylene powder is poured into a sealed mould that rotates on several axes in an oven. The melting polyethylene spreads throughout the surface of the mould. Computer-controlled rotation programs correspond to a specific model of kayak. These programs ensure that areas of a kayak most subject to stress receive thicker coats of polyethylene. Once out of the oven, the cooling process is crucial in the production of a high quality plastic kayak. High-density polyethylene can contract substantially, and it is not unusual for a kayak to contract up to 20 cm from mould dimensions. Slow cooling at ambient temperature prevents warping or distortion.
Touring kayaks
The touring line of BORÉALDESIGN kayaks is perfectly
suited to exploring lakes and rivers, and for short excursions along shorelines.
Their primary stability makes them an ideal choice for beginners. Excellent
directional stability precludes the need for a skeg or rudder. They
feature hard chines and a long waterline, and are surprisingly fast, stable
and manoeuvrable. Touring kayaks are not as long as traditional sea
kayaks, making them a joy to paddle on rivers.
Polyethylene
All BORÉALDESIGN plastic kayaks are moulded from high-density polyethylene for added strength and durability. Polyethylene contains ultraviolet inhibitors that despite frequent exposure to sunlight preserve the gloss finish and colour of a kayak.
Colours
BORÉALDESIGN offers a range of vibrant colours to choose from: the original Multicoloured series, the Safety series for greater visibility and the muted tones of the Celestial series.
