Waterproof compartments

Pakesso and composite Fjord with rudder

The Pakesso and the composite Fjord with rudder feature a quick release, flush deck hatch system that is both efficient and streamlined.

The waterproof compartments are designed to protect your gear and serve as extra floatation in case your craft overturns. They add buoyancy to your kayak and prevent it from submerging. Personal effects stored in the compartments should always be placed in dry bags for extra floatation in case you lose or break a cover.

The covers feature a double-walled rubber seal to ensure that compartments remain waterproof. Seals and compartment edges or rims must always be kept clean and grit-free to avoid leaks.

To open a compartment, raise the buckle to loosen the strap, then unhook the cord. The covers are attached to the deck by a cord strung beneath the deck.  To close a compartment once the cover is in place, hook the cord over the fitting, cam the buckle closed and position the excess strap on the Velcro section.

Important: Check strap tension regularly to ensure that enough pressure is applied to covers. Tension may be adjusted with the quick-release mechanism.

You may have to adjust strap tension the first time you use your kayak. Changes in humidity and temperature from the time of manufacture to delivery of the kayak may cause straps to retract or expand, despite the very high quality of materials used.
